Computed tomography-guided and arthroscopically controlled en
bloc retrograde resection of a juxta-articular osteoid osteoma of the
tibial plateau -
Arthroscopy |
|
Osteoid osteoma
represents approximately 10% to 11% of all the benign bone tumors. The
localization at the articular and juxta-articular level of the knee is
an atypical picture that causes both diagnostic and therapeutic
problems. We present the case of an osteoid osteoma of the lateral
tibial plateau just beneath the joint level. The lesion was removed by a
rear-entry computed tomography (CT)-guided drill under arthroscopic
control and the bony defect filled with bone graft harvested from the
proximal tibial metaphysis... |

How Old Is This Fracture? Radiologic Dating of Fractures in
Children: A Systematic Review
- American Journal of Roentgenology |
|
Conclusion: Radiologic
dating of fractures is an inexact science. Most radiologists date
fractures on the basis of their personal clinical experience, and the
literature provides little consistent data to act as a resource. There
is an urgent need for research to validate the criteria used in the
radiologic dating of fractures in children younger than 5 years...

The symptomatic accessory navicular bone: A report and
discussion of the clinical presentation
- Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology |
|
An accessory navicular
bone is a congenital anomaly caused by aberrant ossification. Usually
asymptomatic, they are relatively common in our population. They can
present in several different locations, which can have an impact on the
clinical presentation and the degree of dysfunction. Occasionally, these
can become symptomatic, which can manifest as chronic or acute on
chronic foot pain. Diagnosis of this condition relies on radiographic
evaluation... |

Influence of axial rotation on chiropractic pelvic radiographic
analysis -
Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
|
|
The strongest
relationship existed between y-axis rotation and pubic symphysis
deviation...Conclusions: Chiropractic pelvic listings are strongly
influenced by positioning of the subject. A few degrees of axial
rotation may create apparent misalignments of several millimeters...

Assessment of inflammatory activity in rheumatoid arthritis: a
comparative study of clinical evaluation with grey scale and power
Doppler ultrasonography
- Annals of Rheumatic Diseases |
|
The 28 joint count for
effusion, synovitis, and PD signal correlated highly with the
corresponding 60 joint counts. US findings correlated better with CRP
and ESR than clinical measures. Interobserver reliability was better for
US findings than for clinical assessment...Conclusion: US is a sensitive
method for assessing joint inflammatory activity in RA, complementary to
clinical evaluation... |

Cadaveric Study of Sonographically Assisted Percutaneous Release
of the A1 Pulley -
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery |
|
The purpose of this
study was to assess the value of using intraoperative sonography to
assist percutaneous release of the A1 pulley in cadavers. By detailed
sonographic examination and anatomical exploration, the authors
determined the correlation of the actual A1 and A2 pulleys (and adjacent
neurovascular bundles not visualized by sonography) to the clearly
visualized flexor tendons and the metacarpophalangeal joint...

Statin use, OA may be joined at hip in women age 65 and older
- Geriatrics |
|
Treatment with statins
may be associated with an increased risk of radiographic hip
osteoarthritis (RHOA) in new cases, but does not appear to negatively
affect progression of disease in patients who already have been
diagnosed.Radiographs were taken at baseline and at an 8-year follow-up
in 5,674 women age 65 and older from the Study of Osteoporotic
Fractures... |

Quantitative assessment of thinning of the subscapularis tendon
in recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder by use of magnetic
resonance imaging -
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery |
|
It is known that
thinning and lengthening of the subscapularis tendon occur in shoulders
with recurrent anterior dislocation. However, no studies have been
performed to quantify the morphologic changes of the subscapularis
tendon under such conditions. We retrospectively measured the thickness
and cross-sectional area of the subscapularis tendon by use of magnetic
resonance imaging in 22 shoulders in 11 patients with unilateral
recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder... |

Successful treatment of a chronic post-traumatic 5-year-old
osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture by percutaneous
vertebroplasty -
British Journal of Radiology |
|
Osteoporotic vertebral
compression fracture (VCF) is a frequently encountered clinical problem
associated with chronic pain and disability. Conservative treatment in
the form of bed rest, pain control and bracing may create a vicious
circle, in which reduced activity leads to further reduction in bone
density and fracture risk. Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is an
accepted treatment modality for osteoporotic vertebral body collapse
present for less than 1 year, vertebral myeloma, haemangioma, metastasis
and recent traumatic fractures... |

A comparison of the semiflexed (MTP) view with the standing
extended view (SEV) in the radiographic assessment of knee
osteoarthritis in a busy routine X-ray department
- Rheumatology |
|
Conclusions: Even when
radiographs are taken in a busy National Health Service radiography
department, measurement of JSW from the MTP view is more reproducible
than from the SEV view, the MTP view gives a slightly lower measurement
of JSW, and there is no advantage in using either view in recording
osteophyte grade. We recommend the wider adoption of the MTP method...

Brucellosis is a
zoonosis that affects several organs and has a protean presentation. The
authors report the case of a 61-year-old male patient with brucellar
spondylodiscitis involving several vertebrae and a paravertebral abscess
localized in the erector spinae muscle. Diagnosis was made by positive
blood culture and MRI. No relapse was seen with a combined treatment (doxycycline/rifampin)
for 3 months, followed by doxycycline alone for 6 months. Almost all
radiologic findings disappeared at the end of a 1-year follow-up without
any further treatment... |

Osteonecrosis of the Patella: Diagnostic Imaging Perspective
- Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography |
|
Disability from knee
dysfunction has important implications on a patient's performance of
simple day-to-day tasks, work-related duties, and leisure activities,
including sports. Diagnostic imaging is of fundamental importance in the
clinical evaluation of the patient with knee pain. The use of magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment of knee pain and dysfunction
has increased over the past few years as orthopedic surgeons and
radiologists have familiarized themselves with the unique advantages of
this modality... |
